Margaret and her husband Desmond, as guests of the Club, joined Members for
the very popular Limerick Supper, when Margaret was presented with a cheque
representing the extremely generous donations received from Members plus a
fabulous bouquet of flowers from the Commodore and his wife. Entirely in
the spirit of the evening, both Margaret and Desmond read out their own
Limericks and a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all.
In April, Margaret will be flying to Kathmandu as the first stop of her
walking holiday in the foothills of the Himalayas; we have been quite
concerned that her lunchtime reading recently has been The Assent of
Everest by Sir Edmund Hilary!
To mark Margaret’s last day in the office after 9 years dedicated to Club
Members as Assistant Secretary, a small lunch party was held for her,
attended by colleagues from both the office and catering sections of the
Club. Margaret will be greatly missed by Members and staff alike.
Margaret’s Limerick (which in consideration of the above is
entirely appropriate):-
There was a young man from Peru
Who thought he’d set sail in a shoe
With sheets of brown laces
For ballast; suit cases
And a cobbler, of course, for the crew!
