The Royal London Yacht Club hosted its first dedicated Jazz Concert in
recent years on Saturday 25th April 2009 with the internationally renowned
jazz musicians Alan Barnes and Bruce Adams accompanied by the Leon Simmonds
Trio of keyboard, double bass and percussion.
Nearly 70 members and guests attended the evening, sponsored by member Bob
Milner of Island Concerts. The evening began with a supper followed by the
welcome and introduction, by Vice Commodore Derek Hodd. The arranger Willie
Sanderson then in turn presented the players.
A wide variety of gigs were performed by Barnes on saxaphone and clarinet,
Adams on trumpet and flugel horn and the Trio whose combined professional
style and careful attention to balance ensured the audience was rivetted by
their talent. The relaxed atmosphere of the evening enabled all who
attended going away believing this would not be the last such event to be
held at the club.
