GENERAL PLAN
This year’s Commodore’s Rally will take place on Sunday 8 August at the Folly Reach on the River Medina from 1200. Berthing for at least 15 RLYC Yachts and Motor Yachts has been reserved on The Cowes Visitors Pontoon situated in the middle of the Medina River just north of the Folly Inn. Access is either by boat from the River Medina, or by car to the Folly Inn Car Park and thence by Folly Taxi out to the pontoon.
The focus of the Rally will be on the boats that attend, rather than on adjacent shore facilities, and luncheon and refreshments should be taken onboard individual boats. The Commodore and his wife will provide a welcoming drink and nibbles on the pontoon. Picnics may be ordered through the Club Caterers giving at least 3 days notice. If the weather is fair, it is hoped that the Rally will take place across all the boats and on the pontoon in between.
DETAILED PLAN
Both sides of the Northern end of the Cowes Visitors Pontoon have been reserved to a distance of 150ft, providing up to 300 feet of secure and robust alongside berthing, with adjacent rafting up. The pontoon runs North/South in the centre of the River Medina, 100 yards North of the Folly Inn.
There is sea room for boats to berth 2 deep on the West side of the pontoon and up to 4 deep on the East side. The deeper water is on the East side (nearer the centre of the Medina River). HW (Portsmouth) is at 1036 and it is half springs. There is ample depth of water at all states of the tide providing that boats with deep keels berth on the East side of the pontoon.
Once the list of participating boats has been finalised, a Berthing Plan will be produced, emailed to all participating boats, and displayed on the Club Notice Board by the morning of the Rally. Please note that there is no walk ashore access between the pontoon and the Folly Inn, and Members arriving by car should use the Folly Taxi. A return trip is £2 per head, and takes less than 5 minutes each way. The Folly Taxis guard VHF CH 72 and are also on MOB 07884 400046.
BERTHING FEES
Short Stay Berthing Fees should be paid individually by each participating boat directly to the Folly Harbourmaster. They can be collected by the Folly Taxis. Example rates are £6.00 for 30ft, £8.50 for 43ft and £11.50 for 50ft.
