The Royal London Yacht Club have today released the Notice of Race and
Entry Form for this event which is being run in conjunction with the Royal
Corinthian Yacht Club and the Island Sailing Club. The Early Bird Entry
fees are the same level as last year and are available if entries are
received by the 31 May 2010..
The regatta is being supported by Harken together with Coastline Ribs,
Cowes Harbour Commissioners, Haines Boatyard. Isle of Wight Council,
Kendalls Fine Arts and Swordsman Charter, Ocean World and the Yachting
Studio.
In addition to the 9 classes that competed last year we are also expecting
the Modern Dragons, the Classic Dragons (who are also having their National
Championships as part of this event) and the Yarmouth One Designs. We hope
to achieve an entry approaching 100 boats.
Each class will race for an overall trophy and this year will include the
UK Classic Dragon Trophy, which is a model of a dragon, for the winner of
the Classic Dragon Nationals and the anniversary trophy, the Queen Victoria
Jubilee Cup, for the Yarmouth One Designs as it is their centenary year.
Racing will take place over five days and in order to reduce time taken to
the race course some races will start and finish near Cowes, although the
principle of a mixture of Solent type fixed mark courses and laid mark
windward/leeward courses will continue as required by the classes.
There will also be a pursuit race on the Wednesday morning and the Harken
Race Day on the Thursday, both with separate prizes.
The British Classic Yacht Club, who are running the BCYC Panerai Cowes
Regatta the same week are also hoping for an increased entry this year and
that at least four Classic Superyachts including Britannia will stay on for
the week following their involvement in the Westward Cup at the Royal Yacht
Squadron in early July
There will be varied social events available including a Joint Opening
Reception with the BCYC at the Royal Yacht Squadron on the Sunday evening,
a reception and supper at the Royal Corinthian on the Monday, a hog roast
with the BCYC at Cowes Yacht Haven on the Wednesday, the Regatta Dinner and
Harken Prizegiving at the Royal London on the Thursday and the Overall
Prizegiving Lunch at the Royal London on the Friday.
The week should therefore provide good racing and social events and some
excellent spectator appeal.
