Bulletin Update
The Commodore is delighted to confirm that the General Committee has appointed the first lady Rear Commodore in the history of the Club, Gill Smith. Gill was previously Captain of Racing and is a Race Officer of international repute and also Principal Race Officer of Cowes Classics Week. Clive Blount has been appointed Captain of Racing at RLYC. Newly appointed Vice Commodore HH Judge Nick Jones, has taken on the responsibility of Reciprocal

ASTO in partnership with RLYC to run 2017 Cowes Small Ships Race
The 2017 Cowes Small Ships Race will take place on Saturday 7th October 2017. This annual event is a popular end to the Sail Training season, with around 25 boats taking part each year. Each of the boats are crewed by young and disabled people, many of whom have never sailed before. While the race is highly competitive, prizes are also awarded for the best dressed crew and the Spirit of the Race. There

Commodore and Flag Officers Welcome RLYC's Admiral HRH The Princess Royal to the Club
On the Monday of Cowes Week, the Commodore Peter Taylor, was delighted to welcome our Admiral HRH The Princess Royal to the Club for a drinks reception before the Annual Dinner in the presence of seventy Members. It is always very special to have the honour of a visit from our Admiral.

RLYC Boules Evening
One for the future is the new 'Boules Evening' the brainchild of David Dyer. Some 30 Members and guests turned up for the first game on the lawn at the rear of the Club. With the playing surface still recovering from the effects of the marquee skill was at a premium. An inpromptu cheese and pork pie party followed, with the London room bar open it could become a regular feature for Summer evenings. The

Charles Stanley Direct Cowes Classics Week 2017
CSDCCW, now in its 10th year, and well-established as one of the major regattas within the Solent calendar. Alex Thomson Hugo Boss Talk and opening of the London Landing on Friday 14 July
We were very excited that Member Alex Thomson was able to open the London Landing prior to speaking on his experiences in the Vendee Globe 16/17, in which he finished second and broke the 24 hour distance record. This was a wonderful Royal London evening. A great speaker; an amazing story; Alex brought his adventures and challenges to life so vividly that all attending were immersed and felt they experienced them. Auction

Charles Stanley Direct Cowes Classics Week 2017
Celebrating its 10 th anniversary, Charles Stanley Direct Cowes Classics Week is being held on17-21 July. Already the entries are over 160 boats bringing the regatta in line with last years entries. Cowes United Launched, 13 May 2017
A new committee boat called Cowes United was launched at the weekend from Trinity Landing. The High Sheriff Ben Rouse was part of the celebration. Royal London member David Franks donated Cowes United and wishes it to be used by all the Clubs in Cowes. He has asked RLYC to manage the committee boat. It has been fully kitted out and has the backing of CCCA.
