Younger Members September Weekend Report
Published 18:50 on 27 Sep 2018
At the beginning of September RLYC hosted our fourth Younger Members (YM) Weekend. This was terrific success, following a similar format to the previous events. The attendees arrived on the Friday evening, for an informal dinner at the Club. During the day on the Saturday and Sunday some members kindly took the YM and guests out on the water for some fabulous sailing experience. The boats used were "Why Not" with Philippe and Paola Wines, "Charm of Rhu" with Martin Thomas and "Tomahawk" with Huw and Jenny Alban-Davies. On both of these days we had some competitive cruising and stopped in Osbourne Bay for lunch.
Additionally, some of the braver youths sailed on the Daring "Dolphin" for the racing. On the Saturday this included the first all-female crew since the 80's with Jane Peckham, Christine Shrimpton, Tessa Pereira and Sheila Lynch, watch out Commodore they did really well without you!
On the Saturday evening there was a fantastic champagne dinner with drinks going on until the early hours. Amazingly everyone made it onto the boats the next day.
Everyone had an extremely enjoyable weekend and several attendees expressed an interest in joining the Club. Thank you to all those involved in the event, especially to the staff at the Club and the boat owners. Please contact the Club office for any details about membership, attending or supporting any future YM weekends, we are already looking forward to the next one!
