Younger Members
The Royal London Yacht Club has an active and rapidly growing Under 45 Younger Member (YM) section which runs their own YM events in addition to hosting YM tables at the 7 formal Club-wide dinners each year including the Royal London Ball in Cowes Week.
The principle YM events each year are the Spring and Autumn Younger Member residential weekends, which involve drinks on the Friday, a formal dinner on the Saturday and a range of sailing and racing on both Saturday and Sunday (S&S Swans, Darings, Fairey Swordsmans, charter yachts, etc.). In 2018 an average of 40 YMs and guests attended each weekend.
In addition, the YMs hold informal drinks evenings in London at the East India Club and Royal Thames Yacht Club (both RLYC reciprocals), turn out in force for the Arundel Dinner (held in London at a different venue every year in March), and help run and lead the singing in the annual RLYC Burns Night in Cowes.
YMs can generally be found at the Club most weekends either racing on Darings (3-4 man classic 32ft 2 tonne one-design keelboats) against members from the RYS, RORC and RTYC, or taking advantage of the Club's pontoons off the Parade in Cowes to stop in for a spot of lunch or a comfortable on-shore bed for the evening when out cruising in the Solent.
If you're in London or you plan to be in Cowes and would like to meet up with the YMs for a drink as a guest, or learn more about crewing opportunities (social, Solent keelboat or cross-channel racing), please email youngermembers@rlyc.org.uk
