Last week we were invited to lunch at the RLYC in Cowes. A bit outside our usual orbit but worth the sea voyage travel should you ever get an invitation.
The Club is ideally placed directly facing the Solent with clear views of the various boating activities which take place there. On arrival the inviting entrance leads into a sparkling interior which is reflected in the shining brass stair treads and creates a very good first impression. Upstairs and onto the terrace with its stunning views and a glass of Champagne which set the seal on the welcome.
We then lunched on the terrace with white table linen and had an extraordinarily good lunch that would have been a credit to the best restaurants. The food was splendid and the locally sourced beef together with the interesting cheese board must be singled out for a special mention. The vintner - obviously a highly trained professional - had done an excellent job with his choice of wines.
The service was unobtrusive and very attentive, and the whole atmosphere of the club was quiet and friendly and this, combined with the excellent weather, made it a truly memorable day.
