Great result for the RLYC Foxes at the Wilson Trophy

Naomi Richards reports: "A brilliant weekend of racing was had at West Kirby. The 76th Wilson Trophy saw the RLYC Foxes deliver their strongest performance to date at this level. Across 16 races, they secured 9 wins, placing them 14th overall out of the 34 international teams entered and 8th British team.
The Wilson is the largest and most competitive event of its kind in the world, every team present is drilled and prepared. The Foxes were coming into the weekend after a solid season of preparation and looking to build on last year's result: 21st.
The weekend saw breeze from across the range, from 5-25 knots! The conditions across the whole weekend provided perfect conditions for fast, tactical team racing, and required skill to keep up with the changing conditions. The Foxes made the most of it with a strong showing all three days, and some particularly pleasing results.
Among the highlights were double wins over both RTYC Blue and Rutland Rockets, as well as victories against the New York Yacht Club, Cumberland Sausages (RTYC), Parkstone Yacht Club, and Royal Forth Hoosiers. Less glamorous results came against some of the most experienced teams; Yale Corinthians, Eastern YC, and George Jesters. Every race was hard fought the deciding moves nearly always happing in the closing stages of the final beat.
It was particularly encouraging to see how the team was able to apply much of the theory and strategy discussed throughout the year. Whether it was using set plays, risk management, or executing mark conversions, there was a real sense that we were sailing with purpose and cohesion.
The Wilson Trophy was a fitting conclusion to the season - not just in terms of results, but also a demonstration of the hard work put into the team over the last year. It is hoped that with continued work the Foxes can push to perform even higher on the world stage in years to come."
Well done to the Team, who wish to express their gratitude to everyone who has supported them. Photos to follow on the RLYC Foxes page on the website.
