Etchells Open Training Camp #1

Winter academy training for youth sailors in conjunction with the Cowes Etchells class. Youth teams go through four weekends of training, both in the classroom at CYH and with coaches on the water (weather permitting). The teams compete for the chance to win the use of an Etchells for a year, sponsored by the newly-formed Cowes Keelboat Youth Charity (CKYC). Up to four boats may be granted depending on availability.

Evening debriefs over supper at the Club give teams the chance to review their performance on the water, with critique from their coaches, and to learn from one another. The coaching, together with talks from a range of experienced sailors - including world champions and tidal experts - gives those who would grasp it an edge over their peers and this edge has helped several alumni to reach Olympic-level performance in this and related disciplines.

Race team volunteers are encouraged to take part in Camp #4 and the Trials and dust off the winter cobwebs. Please contact the sailing manager if you are interested in supporting these young sailors.
